You can’t tell the story of UK underground music without L Double. A true innovator, he’s been shaping sounds and breaking boundaries for decades—constantly evolving, always ahead of the game.
From his early days with DTF All-Stars, one of the pioneering acts of UK hip hop, to touring Europe with DJ Trix and discovering the wild energy of rave, L Double has never just followed trends—he’s created them. By blending hip hop, acid house, and dub, he helped lay the foundation for bleep techno, then carved his name into the early days of jungle and drum & bass.
When he founded Flex Records in 1994, it wasn’t just another label—it was a powerhouse dedicated to pushing the culture forward. He had already pioneered the now mandatory "DoubleDrop" style of mixing while tearing up raves under aliases like Asylum and The Dubster, to becoming the first-ever DJ to 'bear witness' and broadcast on BBC Radio 1Xtra, setting up the first UK Official Jungle / Drum and Bass chart, L Double has always been at the cutting edge of UK bass music.
